PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP (PPG)

We are keen to provide patients with the opportunity to express their views and to influence how their local health services should develop.  With this in mind we are setting up a Patient Participation Group.

 

The aim of the group is to provide patients, GPs and staff with the opportunity to exchange ideas and information and then to take to action.

Clinics & Services

pregnantOur specialist clinics are mostly run by our own nurses who have specific and ongoing training in that particular area.

Antenatal care

GP consultations are provided in normal surgery time. Care is shared with our attached midwives and with the ante-natal unit at the local hospital.

Midwife Clinic

Run on weekly basis, this clinic is attended by our attached midwives.

Asthma and COPD

asthmaOur asthma and COPD clinics are open to those on the relevant disease register, and are run by Pauline Filby. They offer regular and thorough assessment of the condition and medication, including spirometry where necessary.

Cervical Smears

These should be booked in the Nurse Family Planning Clinic in preference to using doctor's appointments.

Child Development & Immunisation

These are multidisciplinary involving doctors, nurses and health visitors.

Contraceptive Services

contraceptionOur nurse-led clinic is run by Helen Wallis, and she can advise on all available methods. You should normally book into the clinic, therefore, rather than with a GP for contraceptive services.  We also provide a service for the fitting and removal of both intrauterine devices and contraceptive implants.

Coronary Heart Disease

Helen Wallis (Practice Nurse) runs this clinic for those on our CHD register. It monitors all aspects of the condition from lifestyle through to medication, in liaison with the GP where necessary.

Diabetes Clinic

This is run by Anne Crowther for patients on our diabetic register. It provides regular monitoring of all aspects of diabetic care, in cooperation with the GPs and the hospital clinics.

Diabetes /Coronary Heart Disease Combined Clinic

This is run by Anne Crowther and Helen Wallis for the monitoring of patients who are on both Diabetes and CHD registers

Hypertension

BP_reading1Helen Wallis runs this clinic to monitor patients on our hypertension register.

Smoking Cessation

A smoking cessation clinic, organised by the PCT and run by Nurse Filby, is  available to provide support and advice. This offers the facility for NHS prescription of smoking cessation aids. You can either go on the waiting list to be seen in the surgery, or be fast-tracked to a clinic within Chelmsford.

Travel vaccination

Elderly_InjectionThis is done in a normal nurse appointment. Advice will be given on the needs for particular destinations. Please book your appointment at least 6 weeks in advance of travel. Also note that some travel vaccines are not available on the NHS and will be offered as a private service which incurs a fee.
